About
Abstract art is my métier. Its appeal is that it's a poetic space, beyond the limits of the mundane. I start with a visual idea sparked from my environment and imagination, and from there I build a picture, layer upon layer. When the painting acquires a resonance I know it's time to leave it be, before the picture becomes overworked and loses it's hard won presence.
I was born and raised in Indiana, and there majored in art in high school. At age 18 I moved to New York City and studied painting with Jake Berthot and Howard Buchwald at Pratt Institute, earning a BFA. After 10 years in New York frequenting art galleries and museums and earning a living constructing opera, ballet, theater and film costumes, I moved to San Francisco with my husband. There I worked for architecture firms and John Berggruen Art Gallery. I resided for 23 years in Petaluma, CA, where I raised my daughter, owned and operated Live Art! art gallery, taught art at Petaluma Academy and earned an MFA at San Francisco State University. From 2012-14 I resided in Los Angeles, maintaining an art studio and exhibiting at Keystone Studios. In 2015 I relocated to Indianapolis where I have an art studio at the historic Stutz car factory. I've exhibited my work in art museums, art centers and galleries in California.
